FROM THE BLOG…

The Fire That’s Been Missing

Yesterday, I sat with Dorothy Martin, an extraordinary coach, fierce in grace and presence.

She told me she’s been replacing the word commitment with devotion.

It landed in my chest like a knowing I couldn’t unhear.
Not just a language shift. A deeper truth.

Because the men I coach are some of the most committed men on the planet.
They don’t flinch when pressure hits.
They show up when it’s hard.
They hold more than most people will ever see.

They are the backbone of their families
The stabilisers of their teams
The ones everyone turns to when things get serious

But behind all that weight

Behind the performance and precision

There’s often a silent question, echoing in the background:

Where did my fire and my passion go?

You see, commitment gets you to the table.
It’s noble. Necessary. Strong.
But it won’t light your life on fire.

And that’s where devotion comes in.

Devotion is the sacred yes.

It doesn’t just say “I’ll show up”
It says, “I am in this with my whole heart”

It’s not about endurance, it’s about love
It’s not about checking boxes, it’s about pouring yourself into what matters
Not because you have to, because you can’t not

You can commit to your wife.

And still leave her wondering if she’s truly loved.
But when you’re devoted to her, she feels it in the way you speak to her, the way you hold her, the way you see her.

You can commit to your children.

You can be present at school plays, pay the bills for all their activities and experiences, and teach them to be good people

But devotion is when you sit on the floor and really listen, when you drop the phone and let them into your world, when they feel deeply that they matter more than your schedule.

You can commit to the business.

Turn up every day, work long hours, push for outcomes, drive performance, and lead the meeting.

But devotion is when you build something that carries your spirit
When your team doesn’t just follow you, they trust you
Because they feel your heart in the vision, they feel your presence in the room

And the same is true with your body.
You can commit to a training plan, show up at the gym, hit the targets and track the progress.

But devotion is when you recognise that your health is not a project, it’s a sacred act of leadership.
It’s the energy source behind your clarity, your strength, your presence. Not something to fix, but something to honour
To tend to and take pride in, because when your body is alive, so are you

Most men have never been taught how to live this way.
They’ve been rewarded for output, praised for stoicism and encouraged to “man up” and get on with it.

But here’s the truth:
You were never meant to just perform.
You were born to create.
To connect.
To serve something greater than yourself.
And to feel the fullness of that in your body, every damn day.

That’s what devotion does!

It returns you to what’s real.
It doesn’t require more effort
It requires more of you.

Your truth.
Your softness.
Your clarity.
Your courage.
Your willingness to live all in.

So, I ask you now –

Where in your life are you committed, but no longer alive?
Where are you showing up out of duty, but craving more depth?
Where would devotion change everything?

Not because you need another task, but because you’re ready to stop holding back.

The men I work with don’t need fixing, they need to come home to themselves and reclaim the fire they’ve buried beneath their performance, to lead from a place that isn’t just strategic, but sacred and to love with the fullness they’ve been taught to hide.

The invitation here is to live in a way that honours what matters most.

This is not about achieving more, acquiring more or being recognised for doing more – It’s about more truth, presence, intimacy and freedom to be.

If you’re ready to make that shift, I’ll meet you there,
